Kensington Metropark in mid-Michigan is a great place to walk and see wildlife. While there are many trails, there are also natural areas of native land like this marsh. The spot where I took this was along one of the trails.
On this mid-afternoon, the sun was at a nearly perfect angle where it was out of the shot, but casting warm light across the swamp's grasses. It was streaming in from the right and putting warm light on the right sides of the grass and tree trunks. The larger trees on the right and the smaller ones sprinkled throughout the left and center of the image gave a sense of depth to the composition. I captured the grasses nearest to me so as to have the detail and depth that I wanted.
There was a small sign on the lower right of the photo that I took out, as well as some birds that appeared only as black specks in the sky. Otherwise, this image is as I saw it on that day.
You can probably see this scene at any time on a spring afternoon in Kensington Metropark. I like to look at this photo from time to time to remind myself that it is out there waiting for me to experience it all over again, year after year.
