As a child, I grew up every Winter in Naples, Florida as my parents vacationed there, staying in Greystone Park. Tigertail Beach is on Marco Island, Florida, and we would always make the trip to the island to enjoy this beach. I remember my parents swinging me between their arms as we walked along this beach. I finally went back and walked this beach again. It brought back so many memories.
Sunset is a great time for photos. On a beach like this, it was even better. I shot this with my compact Canon G12. I thought I was going to get it wet as we took the shortcut to the beach by wading in waist deep water and crossing the lagoon. But we made it. I took this photo just moments after stepping onto the beach for the first time in 30 years or more.
There was almost no post-processing to do on this picture. Only an enhancement of the RAW image to a normal state was needed. I did add a bit of a reflector effect to the foreground as it was a little dark, but that was it.
The light really lit up the colors of the water that day. When I first stepped onto the beach, I looked down and saw a perfect sand dollar just like I used to pick up when I was a kid. It's like it was waiting for me.
