The first snowfall of the year left the trees with a heaving coating of snow. There was no wind so it just sat on their branches. It was still coming down heavily and I wanted to get a shot of it without getting snow all over my camera. I opened the garage door and shot up into the tree in the front yard.
The light was gray and really quite awful, but filling the frame with the branches made a lovely image. It was all different shades of gray and the branches with snow on them made an almost abstract composition. It was better than taking in the whole tree. By shooting in close with the telephoto, I was able to capture the depth of the image with the branches intertwining both near and far.
I converted this photo from color to black and white. It was nearly black and white anyway. I used an Adox Silvermax 21 film emulation.
This is a different way of looking at a snowy scene and I hope you like it even if you don't like winter.
