I was driving the back roads one morning and came upon this long stretch of dirt road where the sky lined up overhead with the road below. It made a lovely composition because it looked like the clouds overhead were lighting the roadway.
I took advantage of the cover on the right so as to not have any lens flare. I kept the sun behind those trees and let it spill across the roadway ahead of me. Some would say that the shadow on the lower right detracts from the scene, but it was by design. The profile of the shadow on the road matches up with the trees and makes one continuous line between light and dark. This line parallels the left side of the road. The clouds are grouped above and are between these two.
A car was pulling out of a driveway far down the road and so I deleted it from the photo. Otherwise, just finishing touches were applied.
If you're like me, you'll see these lines in the composition and feel how they draw you inward. I find myself straining to see the far end of the road and where it goes while almost simultaneously looking up at that magnificent sky.
