Naples, Florida is beautiful. Its inland waterway is a safe passage for boaters to get from the shore and into the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Sport fishing and good times await this particular boat seen here.
The ship was making a beautiful broad wake, full of spray and white. I wanted to show the angle of its travel from lower left to upper right, leading the eye out of the image and into the open water. I placed the horizon on the top golden third horizontal line so I could capture all of the boat's wake.
I had to lighten the trees and shore and give a little sunlight to the whole scene. The white balance proved to be tricky because of all of the blues of sky and sea in the image. I settled for a cooler white balance that worked well, but then it colored the whites of the waves. I neutralized this color cast on the whites to bring them back to pure white. The final image represents what I actually saw that day.
There is no better feeling to me than to be in a boat on the water and Naples Florida is one of my top places to be. I've combined these two in this photo. I love the feeling of warmth and freedom that this image seems to gives off. I hope you feel it too.
